The 'Hakone Tourism Digital Map' managed by Hakone DMO goes into full operation
The full-scale operation of the "Hakone Tourism Digital Map," which supports tourism in the Hakone area popular among visitors to Japan, has started. Hakone attracts many visitors from both Japan and abroad with its natural beauty, hot springs, and historical spots. However, there have been challenges, including congestion management during peak times. Certain tourist spots and transportation means can become excessively crowded, often affecting the experience of visitors and the lives of residents.
The "Hakone Tourism Digital Map" was created to solve such challenges. This service has features including:
Visualization of Traffic Information
AI cameras have been installed to view the road conditions in Hakone town in real time. Based on this camera information, a traffic volume prediction model has been developed, and congestion prediction information is displayed on the digital map.
Traffic Congestion Prediction
The congestion status of six parking areas within Hakone town is acquired, and congestion and traffic information are displayed on the digital map to support tourism by car.
Visualization of Restaurant Congestion Status
The congestion status of restaurants in Hakone town is displayed, and online reservations are available. This makes it easier to choose restaurants according to one's preferences, allowing for effective use of waiting time for further sightseeing, shopping, or experiences while checking the congestion status of popular restaurants.
Hakone, with its traditional ryokans and hot springs, is attractive to visitors to Japan, and its position as the gateway to Mount Fuji and the Izu Peninsula also holds attractive potential as a MICE area. However, there have been challenges in terms of transportation, due to its steep terrain and narrow roads. With the full-scale operation of the "Hakone Tourism Digital Map," these challenges could be resolved, making Hakone an even more attractive area for MICE planners.
